I was helping my old man sign up for Uber and we ran into problems requesting a ride.
He kept getting an error saying something to the effect of his number isn’t verified. As part of the install he was told to text Go to a number, which will get the code. The trouble appeared to be not all plans allow for shortcodes to be texted. But luckily, there’s a workaround. It’s not pretty but its effective.
One final note: I didn’t go through this on my own phone, so I can’t give you screenshots, just the steps.
1.) Tap the 3 bars on the top left to bring up the menu
2.) Tap Settings
3.) Tap your name at the top
4.) Tap your phone number (you may be asked to verify your password at this point)
5.) Type a friend’s phone number (If you don’t have a friend handy, you can sign up for a Google Voice Account and be your own friend!)
6.) Tap Save
7.) Have that friend give you the code and type it in.
8.) You’ll be taken back you the settings screen, once there, tap your phone number (you may be asked to verify your password again)
9.) Type your phone number
10.) Tap Save
11.) Type in the code
And you’re good to go.
