WordPress White Screen of Death

Recently, our website started spitting out what I came to find out was called the White Screen of Death! (emphasis, and exclamation, my own). It wasn’t technically a five alarm failure because anyone could view the page. The trouble was the wp-admin page was showing up as a blank white page. After some digging around, I found the answer.I needed to specify the php memory limit.

Before we start, this assumes you have not only Filezilla downloaded, but also access to your site’s webserver.

1.) Log into your webserver via Filezilla

2.) Scroll down and right-click the wp-config.php file

3.) Click View/Edit

(Confirm any warning boxes you may get)

View/Edit menu option in FileZilla

4.) Scroll down and fine the line that says /* That’s all, stop editing! Happy Blogging. */

5.) Hit enter once to give yourself with which to work

6.) Type define( ‘WP_MEMORY_LIMIT’, ‘256M’ );

Adding Memory Limit to wp-config

7.) Click File

8.) Click Save

9.) Click the to close the window

10.) Check the Finish editing and delete local file  box

11.) Click Yes

Save Changes to the file and then delete local file

And that’s it. You may have to refresh your browser’s cache to see these changes take effect.

If it still doesn’t work for you, check out the page below; that’s where I found my solution:
